The Great Gallery Pictographs of Horseshoe Canyon in Canyonlands National Park represent the archaeological archetype of the Barrier Canyon Style (BCS) of prehistoric native american art. The BCS paintings were left by Archaic hunters/gatherers of the American Southwest, and are found predominately in Utah, Colorado and Arizona, in the Colorado Plateau region.
This particular rock art panel depicts elk, deer, and american buffalo (bison), a common element of this style of native american art.
