Description
Wood Home - Grafton Ghost Town - Utah
Grafton is a historic ghost town located in southern Utah, near the town of Rockville, south of Zion National Park. Grafton was settled in 1859 by Mormon pioneers on the orders of Brigham Young, with the goal of expanding cotton production in southern Utah. Grafton suffered from a number of locational issues that ultimately led to its demise in 1921. These included frequent flooding of the community by the Virgin River, and heavy silt load in the water used to irrigate the farming communities crops, and its relative isolation on the south bank of the Virgin River. Residents ultimately left the community for more accessible nearby communities like Rockville.
