Description
A view of Lees Ferry, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and the Vermillion Cliffs through the windows of an abandoned classic truck left at the property. Lees Ferry derives its name from John D. Lee, a Mormon pioneer, who settled in the area, one to hide from the law after the Mountain Meadow Massacre, but also to establish a ferry crossing on the Colorado River, for Mormon settlers moving into Arizona. While Lee and later his wife, only operated the ferry for a few years, the Mormon Church eventually took over operations, and continued the ferry service until 1928, when the first Navajo Bridge was installed downstream across Marble Canyon.
