Artist's Description

This is a view of one of the many petroglyphs at the McConkie Ranch site, in Dry Fork Canyon, near Vernal, Utah. The majority of rock art at this location is attributed to the Fremont Indians, a native american culture that lived in the area between about 1-1300 A.D. They exhibit aspects of both sedentary farmers, as well as hunter-gatherers. Some have suggested that they are related to the Ancestral Puebloans of southern Utah, Arizona and Colorado. These particular petroglyphs are considered anthromorphs in the Vernal Style of Fremont rock art.
