Horse Mascaron - City Hall Facade - Louisville - Kentucky
Louisville's historic City Hall was constructed between 1870-1873, following a design competition that was held in 1867. The exterior of the building was constructed from Indiana Limestone, sourced from a quarry near Salem, Indiana. Architecturally it blends elements of Italianate and Second Empire styles, The design incorporate's an agricultural themes including the carved heads of livestock above the windows of the building. The theme reflects the importants of agriculture in Kentucky's early history.
